You can contact us based on our areas of support noted in the descriptions below, but we’re also happy to discuss other matters. If we are unable to help you ourselves, we can direct you to the appropriate channels.

CAD Management
Dr Stephen MarshallDirector, Centre for Academic Development
Professor in Educational Technology Stephen leads the Digital Vision and Strategy work of CAD and provides support for staff, programmes and schools exploring the potential for technology to improve learning and teaching at Victoria. He is also course coordinator for HELT506 Learning and Teaching with Digital Technology.
His particular focus areas beyond this are: Course and programme design, technology pedagogies, Turnitin and academic integrity, copyright. |
Jonny FluteyDeputy Director, Centre for Academic Development
Jonny’s focus is to support and build digital capability in the core university functions of research, learning, teaching and enhancing the student experience. He is supported in this by the university’s Digital Vision for Learning and Teaching and eResearch Capability report. Jonny (and most of his team) are currently completing the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Learning and Teaching to ensure that technology at Victoria is directly informed by modern teaching best practice. |
Beth SmithManager, Learning Design and Development
Beth is responsible for developing a university-wide digital capability plan, and is able to facilitate training in a range of applications for teaching and learning. Her focus is on building confidence and capabilities in the use of technology for teaching and learning at any level. She can be contacted regarding any technical training needs or new technology requirements. |
Liz PritchettOffice Manager/EA
Liz manages CAD administration, including facilities management, finance and human resources processes. She assists with the administration of CAD projects and provides EA support to the leadership team. Contact Liz through the CAD-contact@vuw.ac.nz with general queries. |
Learning Design
CAD’s learning designers support academic and non-academic staff across the university with learning and teaching technology and instructional design.

Faculty support for Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences As well as supporting learning and teaching technology, Francesca is a skilled instructional designer. Her focus is on integrating the use of video in teaching and learning practices. |

Faculty support for Faculty of Education Billie is interested in the creation of digital resources and tools and methods to increase student engagement and resources. She is also involved with tutor support. |
Laura BurnetLearning Designer
Faculty support for Faculty of Health Laura is a learning designer with particular interest in developing engaging and accessible digital course content. Laura has experience developing clinical resources in the health programmes. |
David HolmesLearning Designer
Faculty support for Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences David is interested in best practices in materials design and assessment and how they support learning and teaching in online and blended courses. |
Adrian PikeLearning Designer
Faculty support for Faculty of Science / Faculty of Engineering Adrian has an interest in the implementation and use of technology in teaching laboratories, using 3D scanning and printing to create digital resources and integrating technology into teaching. Adrian has completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education Learning and Teaching to ensure that technology use at Victoria is directly informed by modern teaching best practice. |

Ana SozinovaLearning Designer
Faculty support for Faculty of Architecture and Design Innovation Ana supports teaching staff with training and problem solving around Blackboard, Zoom, Panopto and designs online and blended learning. She has a strong interest in building diverse and engaging learning solutions, using gamification and modern assessment practices to make learning appealing and fun. |

Rana’s areas of interest include using digital technologies for teaching, learning, and research, pedagogical content knowledge, and science education. She is also involved with micro-credential development and has experience in instructional design. |

Dr Irina ElgortAcademic Developer
Associate Professor in Higher Education Irina's research areas include technology-mediated learning and teaching, technology-mediated communication, science of learning, and second language learning and teaching. She conducts interdisciplinary research that combines educational, psychology and neurological research methods. Irina specialises in the course, teaching and learning design, with an emphasis on effective use of digital technology in academic contexts. Irina is interested in evaluating the effect of educational innovation on teacher and student behaviour, and the development of teacher and learner autonomy. |
Dr Kathryn SutherlandAcademic Developer
Associate Professor Kathryn coordinates the Victoria Early Career Academic Programme (VECAP), designed to support early career academics with establishing their academic careers, building supportive peer and mentoring networks, and developing their teaching and research. Kathryn also coordinates the Ako in Action programme, partnering students and academics to work together on teaching development and design. Kathryn’s research mainly focuses on the experiences of and support for early career academic staff. |
Dr Namali SuraweeraAcademic Developer
Namali’s research areas include e-learning, information literacy, digital/multimedia technologies, digital teaching and learning, educational, social, and cultural theories. Namali specialises in instructional design with an emphasis on effective use of digital technology in higher educational academic contexts. |
Chulainn SowerbyAcademic Developer
Chulainn's focus is on the effective building of relationships in learning spaces to foster connection and whanaungatanga between everyone engaging in that space. His research interests centre around Whiteness, Racism, Hegemony and Power. |
Digital Research
The research team are interested in hearing about innovative projects that utilise technology in novel and creative ways, or ones that traverse traditional disciplinary boundaries. They can be contacted about technology issues related to eResearch, and are keen to provide support, troubleshooting and advice for those venturing into this area.
Konstantina VasilevaResearch Capability Team Leader
Konstantina is interested in interdisciplinary research. She brings a mixture of digital research skills from industry and academia to her work, assisting academics and researchers in exploring new research tools, opportunities and avenues for collaboration. She transitioned from a background in the humanities to scientific research and is interested in supporting others on similar journeys. |

André works with academics and post-graduate students to deliver high-technology research and teaching outcomes and solutions. |
Dr Hayden ThorneDigital Research Consultant
Hayden brings digital skills and a passion for research from his previous academic historian role to this position working with academics and researchers. He is interested in building their capacity to utilise digital resources to enhance research outcomes and improve research efficiency. |

Marley RichardsWorkplace Technology Trainer
Digital Solutions Marley works with both academic and professional staff to provide support and training at Te Herenga Waka in the use of the Microsoft Office 365 suite, computers, mobiles and collaborative technologies. Marley can assist with the facilitation of focused workshops on the use of workplace technologies, or one-on-one development opportunities for staff based on their individual needs. |
