Course Zoom Accounts
Course Zoom accounts are a useful tool for teaching online or in dual-mode. They are particularly useful for large courses, or courses with multiple teaching staff.
VUW teaching staff can request a Zoom course account. This is a Zoom account which is dedicated to your course and not connected to your personal account. Contact Digital Solutions via the Staff Service Centre or extn 5050 to request a Zoom account for your course(s).
Getting started with your course Zoom account:
Course Zoom accounts come with a personal meeting ID (i.e. a Zoom URL) and a six digit host key.
Course Zoom accounts come with a personal meeting ID (i.e. a Zoom URL) and a six digit host key.
- Personal meeting ID: You can share the personal meeting ID link in your Blackboard course. Using this link for your course Zoom sessions means that you don't have to schedule meetings - students and staff can simply click on this link to join the virtual Zoom classroom.
- Host key: Use the host key to make yourself the host of the meeting (this allows you to manage the meeting while being signed in under your staff Zoom ID). Simply join the meeting by using the personal meeting ID link, then click on the "Participants" icon in the bottom, select "claim host" and enter the host key when prompted. The host key can be shared with anyone who might need to host a session on Zoom using this course account.
Managing your course Zoom account:
You can manage the course Zoom account online. To do so, log into Zoom using the account username (vuw.ac.nz email address) and password.
By default, the account is set to microphones muted upon entry, and the camera off. Students don't need a password to join, and no waiting room is enabled. All settings can be changed when you log into Zoom online.
We recommend reviewing the meeting settings before you use the course Zoom account to ensure that everything is set up how you want it to be.

Managing you cloud recordings
If you choose 'cloud recording' in a Course Zoom account your course recordings will be saved to a folder with the same Course Zoom account name. You can then review your recordings and copy or move them into your course folder.
Note: Only Instructors on the Blackboard course can copy or move these recordings into the course. If you are unable to find the cls folder or the recordings are missing please contact your Faculty Learning Designer or Digital Solutions.
For recordings saved to the cloud from your personal Zoom account will be saved in a different folder in Panopto and other information about Zoom, see our Running a Zoom session page.
